El passat dimarts 22 de març de 2022 alumnes i professors de la Estonian Academy of Arts (Tallin) i l'Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny Pau Gargallo de Badalona (Barcelona) van compartir un taller RAKU organitzat pels professors del departament de Ceràmica Dani Salinas, Vicent Roda i Silvestre Oliveras i la col·laboració dels alumnes i l’exprofessora Mercè Tiana. Aquesta activitat ha estat organitzada en el marc del programa ERASMUS.
La cocció Raku és una antiga tècnica de ceràmica japonesa que s'ha utilitzat durant molts segles per crear un acabat únic a les peces. La tècnica del Raku es remunta al segle XVI i consisteix en treure la ceràmica esmaltada del forn mentre encara està incandescent i col·locar-la després en un material combustible, com ara serradures o paper de diari. Aquesta tècnica s'utilitza per desproveir la peça d'oxigen, creant així una infinitat de colors dins de l'esmalt. La cocció de Raku sense esmalt significa que l'oxigen es pren de la mateixa argila en lloc de l’esmalt, la qual cosa fa que algunes zones tinguin un color negre mat. Aquest tipus de cocció crea peces completament úniques, ja que mai hi ha una certesa sobre com sortirà la peça final. El Raku essencialment crea un disseny únic cada vegada, de manera que hi ha menys control sobre el resultat.
La Estonian Academy of Arts / EKA és un dels socis ERASMUS de l'Escola d’Art Pau Gargallo. Les professores que ens van visitar –Eve Koha, Ene Raud-Mägi, Ingrid Allik, Kersti Laanmaa, Laura Pöld i Karin Kalma- venien acompanyades d’un grup d’alumnes de l'EKA. Alguns d'ells havien fet prèviament algunes presentacions dels seus portafolis. Tot aquest grup va compartir tot el dia a Badalona i els dies següents van visitar –amb l'artista ceràmica Mercè Tiana- altres museus, galeries i estudis vinculats a l'àmbit de la Ceràmica a Catalunya.

RAKU WORKSHOP

Last Tuesday 22th March 2022 students and teachers from the Estonian Academy of Arts (Tallin) and the Escola d’Art Pau Gargallo de Badalona (Barcelona) shared a RAKU workshop organized by the teachers of Ceramics department Dani Salinas, Vicent Roda and Silvestre Oliveras and the collaboration of some students and the ex-teacher Mercè Tiana. This activity has been organized within the framework of the ERASMUS program.
Raku firing is an ancient Japanese ceramic technique that has been used for many centuries to create a unique finish to the pieces. The Raku technique dates back to the 16th century. The Raku technique involves removing the glazed pottery from the oven while it is still glowing redand then placing it on a combustible material, such as sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to deprive the piece of oxygen, thus creating an infinity of colors within the glaze. Raku firing without glaze means that oxygen is taken from the clay itself instead of the glaze, which causes some areas to have a matte black color. Raku firing creates completely unique pieces, as there is never any certainty about how the final piece will turn out. The Raku essentially creates a unique design every time, so there is less control over the outcome.
Estonian Academy of Arts / EKA is one of EASD Pau Gargallo ERASMUS partners. The teachers who visited us –Eve Koha, Ene Raud-Mägi, Ingrid Allik, Kersti Laanmaa, Laura Pöld and Karin Kalma- were joined by a group of EKA students. Some of them had previously make some presentations of their portfolios. All this group shared all the day in Badalona and on the following days they visited –joined by the ceramist artist Mercè Tiana- other museums, galleries and studios linked to the Ceramics field in Catalunya.
